Traverse City has had some leaky sewer lines, of late. Specifically, along US 31 between 3 mile and 4 mile roads. City officials are now toying with the idea of sharing a new line with Acme Township that would be further away from the bay. During this summer’s repair and rehabilitation efforts of the City’s sewer system, numerous leaky pipes were discovered and even a break in a section of pipe that lead to 50 gallon spill. The workers at the repair site also uncovered unstable soil in the underground infrastructure. In light of this, Traverse City is seeking its best alternative: merging a new, larger sewer main. One of the few benefits of sharing this line will be an adjustment in operating costs for both parties, as well as, making way for a proliferating population. This alliance is expected to take place in the months ahead.
